Designers of mobile medical systems chose Brainboxes Bluetooth CompactFlash cards for their innovative emergency patient monitoring unit.

The system consists of three parts, the mobile patient unit, the hospital work station and the information system. Together, they form a complete tool for pre-hospital diagnosis support, decision support, documentation and follow-up.

Brainboxes Bluetooth CompactFlash cards wirelessly connect lightweight computers with specialist software to a small measuring unit that records patient data.

Data stored on the patient unit can be immediately synchronised via Bluetooth and sent from the ambulance directly to the hospital work station or control centre PC system for immediate specialist consultation.

Medical testing and research laboratories use Brainboxes RS422/485 serial cards to link various peripherals such as DNA, blood and chromatography analysers and oscilloscopes to PC’s.

A Brainboxes PCMCIA card, PM-120, is regularly used to attach laboratory equipment to laptops which are not fitted with an RS422/485 port as standard.

A leading medical electronics designer and developer uses Brainboxes BL-554 USB Bluetooth Adaptors within their latest pain management generators.

The pain management system incorporates radio frequency technology to interrupt nerve conduction, and therefore reduce pain. The BL-554 adaptor sends patient information to a Bluetooth connected printer.

Bluetooth technology is a health and safety feature within the pain management system. Strict guidelines exist to ensure that medical equipment is isolated from any other electrical/electronic device.

Bluetooth removes the cable link and therefore is a very safe way of transferring important data to the printer. The device is used in neurosurgery and there are risks of paralysis to patients if spurious currents hit the wrong nerve. The system is sold to hospitals, pain research labs and leading universities in Europe and the USA.

A major police service is adopting a wireless evidence gathering system for ‘scene of accident’ and ‘scene of crime’ operations. Pictures from a digital camera will be transmitted over Bluetooth to a mobile terminal equipped with a Brainboxes BL-565 class 1 CompactFlash card.

The terminal operator will also be ‘encrypted’ into the system for security, so that he has an ‘active tag’, if called away the system will ‘suspend’ until tag comes back into range. Pictures will be transferred automatically from camera to terminal and filed in the correct location without user intervention.
